Here is a long list of the school-related activities I've been involved in at Ladue Horton Watkins High School. Senior YearClasses I took: AP Physics, AP English, German IV, Journalism IV Newspaper, Independent-study Computer Animation, and Automotive Maintenance. Webmaster of Panorama Online - I was webmaster of the school newspaper's website, Panorama Online. Strolling Strings - I continued to play lead violin with the Ladue Strolling Strings, and managed the sound system on gigs that needed it. We went to the regional convention in Kansas City in January 2001. Ladue High School Orchestra - I continued to play 1st violin this year, and I played all 3 movements of Bach's Violin Concerto in E Major for our final concert with the orchestra. I was selected to receive the Lois Percival Award given to one senior every year. St. Louis All-Suburban Orchestra - I was selected this year to be concertmaster, playing in a weekend clinic on the 12th and 13th of January. Missouri All-State Orchestra - I played first violin in the convention from the 24th to 27th of January 2001. Parkway Baptist Church Orchestra - at the church I regularly attend. The orchestra plays two out of every three weeks in the morning service and rehearsal briefly before each service. Solo-Ensemble - I received a "1" rating at the district Solo-Ensemble festival on my solo. I also substituted 1st violin part in a string quartet, and we received a "1" in that event. At the state festival, I received a "1" rating on my solo. Parkway Baptist Church New Connection Youth Choir - I sing in the youth choir of the church I regularly attend. We rehearsed once a week and regularly sang in services. Science Olympiad - I went with the Ladue High School Science Olympiad team to the state competition. I placed 1st in the state with a partner in Practical Data Gathering, and 2nd in the state in Road Scholars. Great Plains Math League competitions - I was captain of a Ladue team that attended 4 GPML contests this year, and we were very successful in all the contests we attended. TEAMS Engineering Competition - I was on the Ladue Varsity team, and we placed 3rd in the JV division for the entire area. ARML - I was on the 15-person Missouri math team in the 26th ARML competition. AMC-12 - I took the AMC-12 national math exam, and qualified to take the AIME test. Video Club - I was president of the Ladue Horton Watkins High School Video Club. Junior YearClasses I took: AP U.S. Government and Politics, AP Computer Science, Physics, Journalism III Newspaper, Advanced Literary Analysis, Advanced Poetry Analysis, Short Story, Composition II, German III, Orchestra, and Physical Education. I also took Calculus III at Washington University. Webmaster of Panorama Online - I was webmaster of the school newspaper's website, Panorama Online. Young People's Symphonic Orchestra - organized by the St. Louis Symphony Music School. I was selected this year to be the concertmaster.
Strolling Strings - I play first violin and am centre violin lead in the group Ladue Strolling Strings, as well as being one of the sound technicians. On the 14th to the 18th of June, 1999, I went with the group to Disney World to play in Epcott Centre during the Magic Music Days. On the 8th of December, 1999, we played for an event at the Missouri's Governor's Mansion in Jefferson City. Missouri All-State Orchestra - I played violin at the All-State Orchestra workshop from January 26th to 29th in the Tan-Tar-A resort in the Ozarks. St. Louis All-Suburban Orchestra - I played 1st violin in the All-Suburban Orchestra, which was a week-end clinic with a concluding concert January 14-15. Parkway Baptist Church Orchestra - at the church I regularly attend. The orchestra plays two out of every three weeks in the morning service and rehearsal briefly before each service. Solo-Ensemble - I received a "1" rating at the district Solo-Ensemble festival on my solo. I also substituted 1st violin part in a 4-violin quartet, and we received a "1" in that event. At the state festival, I received a "1" rating on my solo. Trio - I played violin in a trio that performed at the Gatesworth Manor
Ladue High School Orchestra - I play first violin in my schools' orchestra. We have been invited to play at the State Music conference in Tan-Tar-A resorts in the Lake of the Ozarks, representing high school orcehstra groups from the Missouri state. We also did various community service projects throughout the year. I received the LHWHS Certificate of Acamedic and Certificate of Service awards for Orchestra this year. Parkway Baptist Church New Connection Youth Choir - I sing in the youth choir of the church I regularly attend. We rehearse once a week and regularly sing in services.
Rensselaer Medal - I received a $40000 scholarship for "outstanding achievement in mathematics and science". Science Olympiad - I went with the Ladue High School Science Olympiad team to the state competition. I placed 2nd overall with a partner in 2 events, Road Scholars and Dynamic Planet. TEAMS Engineering Competition - I was on the Ladue Junior Varsity team, and we placed 3rd in the JV division for the entire area.
29th Annual High School Excellence in Mathematics Contest - I received 3rd place in the Junior division. The team won 1st place. Great Plains Math League competitions - I went to a regional competition at Hazelwood West High School, and received 3rd place in the Sprint Round. I also organized the Ladue team that went to the qualifying competition at St. Charles Community College. Our team placed 2nd overall, and we took home many individual awards. I received 2nd place in the Target Round. ARML - I was on Missouri's primary A team in the 25th ARML competition. I was also on the Missouri team for the two ARML power questions (proof-based national tests) throughout the year. AMC-12 - I took the AMC-12 national math exam. USACO U.S. Open - I participated in the U.S. Open 200, which is a computer science / programming competition Video Club - I am president of the Ladue Horton Watkins High School Video Club. LHWHS All-School Activity and Service Award - for contributions to Video Production Club, American Mathematics Competition, and the TEAMS - Engineering Contest LHWHS Certificate of Achievement for Academic Excellence - in A.P. US Government and Politics LHWHS Certificate of Achievement for Academic Excellence - in Physics LHWHS Certificate of Achievement for Academic Excellence - in A.P. Computer Science Sophomore YearClasses I took: AP Calculus BC, AP European History, Chemistry, German II, Journalism II Newspaper, English Literature I and II, Science Fiction, Satire, Orchestra, Health Webmaster of Panorama Online - I was webmaster of the school newspaper's website, Panorama Online, and received a "Certificate of Achievement for academic excellence in Newspaper". Employed at LHWHS - I was employed at Ladue Horton Watkins High School as a computer technician, and did some web design work. ARML - I was on Missouri's primary A team in the 24th annual American Regions Mathematics League meet. AHSME - I took the American High School Mathematics Examination (AHSME), and qualified for the American Invitational Math Examination (AIME). Great Plains Math League - At the St. Charles County Community College High School Math Tournament, I received 4th place in the individual Sprint Round, qualifying me for Great Plains Math League state competition, which I participated in. Video Club - I was president of the Ladue Horton Watkins High School Video Club Science Olympiad - I was on the primary "Blue" team of the Ladue Horton Watkins High School Science Olympiad Team. In the regional competition, I received 2nd place for the event Surfing the Net, received 2nd place with a teammates for Physics Lab and Earth Sea and Sky. I also received 4th place with a teammate for Road Scholars. The two Ladue teams placed 1st and 2nd in the regional competition. The Ladue White team qualified for the State competition. In the state competition, I received 4th place with a teammate in the event Bottle Rockets. The Ladue team placed 3rd in the State. Solo-Ensemble - I entered into the regional Solo-Ensemble music festival, playing 1st violin in a quartet and also playing a solo. Both received Honor 1 ratings and qualified to perform at the state music festival. At the state Solo-Ensemble festival, both the quartet and my solo also received Honor 1 ratings. YPSO - I played first violin in the St. Louis Young People's Symphonic Orchestra. All-Suburban Orchestra - I played first violin in the St. Louis High School All-Suburban Orchestra. School Orchestra - I played first violin in the Ladue Horton Watkins High School Orchestra. I went with the group to New Orleans playing in a music festival. The orchestra received two trophies for outstanding performance. Throughout the year, I also participated in various community service performances. Strolling Strings - I played first violin in the group Ladue Strolling Strings, as well as being one of the sound technicians. I went with the group to the regional Strolling Strings conference in Minneapolis, MN, which was being directed by the United States Air Force Strolling Strings. We were also invited to play during a couple sessions of Fox 2 News St. Louis. I was also in the Ladue Strolling Strings Quartet group. German Examination - I achieved "Excellent Achievement on the National German High School Examination by the American Association of Teachers of German" German Club - I was a member of the Ladue Horton Watkins High School German Club. Freshman Year
Excellence in Mathematics - I received 5th place in the Mathematics Educators of Greater St. Louis 20th Annual Excellence in Mathematics Contest. Ladue Horton Watkins High School team won 1st place. High School Excellence in Mathematics - I received 8th place in the Freshman division of the 27th Annual St. Louis Area High School Mathematics Conference: Excellence in Mathematics. The Ladue Horton Watkins High School team won 1st place. AHSME - I took the American High School Mathematics Examination (AHSME).
Science Olympiad - I was on the primary competition team of the Ladue Junior High School Science Olympiad Team. In the regional competition, I placed 1st with a teammate in Road Scholars and 2nd in Surfing the Net. The team placed 1st in the region, qualifying us for the State competition. At state, I received 1st place with a teammate in Road Scholars and 2nd place with a teammate in Water Quality. The team placed 2nd in the state, qualifying us for the 1998 National Science Olympiad Competition. There, I received 3rd in the nation with a teammate in Road Scholars, 5th in the nation with a teammate in What Are You Trying To Tell Me, and 7th in the nation with a teammate in Earth, Sea, Sky. The team placed 12th in the nation.
Strolling Stings - I played first violin in the group Ladue Strolling Strings, as well as being one of the sound technicians. Our group joined with another Strolling Strings group in Wisconsin to form the Midwest Strolling Stings, and we went on a 10 day tour of England and France in July of 1998. I was also in the Ladue Strolling Strings Quartet group. Solo-Ensemble - I entered into the regional Solo-Ensemble music festival, playing 1st violin in a trio and a duet and also playing a solo. All three received Honor 1 ratings and qualified to perform at the state music festival. YPSO - I played first violin in the St. Louis Young People's Symphonic Orchestra. School Orchestra - I played first violin in the Ladue Horton Watkins High School Orchestra. I went with the group to Chicago playing in a Heritage Music Festivals. I played a solo violin part for the 2nd semester concert. I received a Ladue Horton Watkins High School Certificate of Service award as well as the Certificate of Achievement in the Fine Arts department for service to the Orchestra. 9th Grade Math Team - I received a Ladue Horton Watkins High School All-School Activity and Service Award for service to the 9th Grade Math Team. German Club - I was a member of the Ladue Horton Watkins High School German Club. Ameteur Radio Club - I was a member of the Ladue Horton Watkins High School Amateur Radio Club. Video Club - I was a member of the Ladue Horton Watkins High School Video Club 8th GradeAs an 8th grader, I participated in many high school activities and did pretty well. Here are some of the highlights. AHSME - I took the American High School Mathematics Examination (AHSME) and received a score of 98. The score was the highest in Ladue Horton Watkins High School, beating all the seniors taking Calculus at the time. I was only taking Advanced Algebra. ARML - I was the Missouri team in the 22nd annual American Regions Mathematics League meet. Trojan MathElite - I received 5th place in the Freshman/Sophomore Division in the Trojan MathElite Trials II math competition, competing in the same division as all the freshman and sophmores. I also was the highest scorer of the Ladue team's Freshman/Sophomore division, beating all the sophmores at the High School taking higher math courses.
Strolling Strings - I played second violin in the group Ladue Strolling Strings, as well as being one of the sound technicians. We played for the State Dinner for the Governor of Missouri, Mel Carnahan at the Missouri Governor's Mansion. I also went with the group to the Regional Strolling Strings Convention at the Tan-Tar-A resort in the Lake of the Ozarks. |
